Sivasagar Tank-(Borpukuri)

Sivasagar Tank, also known as Borpukhuri, is a remarkable historical landmark in the heart of Sivasagar, Assam. This vast tank was constructed in the 18th century by the Ahoms. Queen Ambika alias Modambika , wife of Swargadeo Shiva Singha, built the tank in 1734. The trio Shiva Doul, Vishnu Doul, Devi Doul, the high offices of the district, and the district jail are situated near the bank. The tank’s consistent water level, unaffected by external factors, showcases the advanced hydrological knowledge of the Ahom period. The tank spans over 120 acres and has a depth of 64 feet, making it a significant architectural feat.

While Sivasagar Tank can be visited throughout the year, each season offers a unique experience. During summer, visitors can witness stunning sunsets that paint the Assamese sky with vivid colors, creating a mesmerizing backdrop for the tank. Currently this tank’s bank is the center of distric administration and also many parks, gardens and a museum etc. Apart from the temples the bank also carries a Church, a Buddhist Monastery and a Masjid, almost assimilating people from all the religions into it.
